Lily Makes Bedding – UPDATE January 7, 2013

Lily rakes bedding - Jan 7, 2013Lily rakes bedding - Jan 7, 2013  Lily was working on bedding again today, pulling sticks from the inside of the brush pile and chewing them into wood chips.  We suspect that is how she made most of her bed.  We’ve never seen a bed like that before.  Then she fluffed her bed and nicely removed the part that was blocking our view.  Lily chews stick to make bedding - Jan 7, 2013Lily chews stick to make bedding - Jan 7, 2013  Her video is intermittent, but what she shows us is good.  Does all this bedding activity mean Lily is getting ready for giving birth?  It would be nice get a clear view of her vulva with this good camera to see how swollen it is at this stage—perhaps less than 2 weeks before the births.

A video of Lily and her den-mates is posted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtLy-jd-Svg.

Jewel stretches - Jan 7, 2013Jewel stretches - Jan 7, 2013Jewel probably ate snow today.  She extended her head past the camera toward the entrance.  We’ll see if the Den-Watchers and the rest of us catch her urinating in a day or two.

Jewel yawns - Jan 7, 2013Jewel yawns - Jan 7, 2013Today, a Lily Fan forwarded a picture of us with June that she found among the top pictures of 2012 for Minnesota Public Radio.  June would be proud.  We were glad to see it.  There aren’t many pictures around of us working with the research bears.  The Sue and Lynn with June - 2012Sue and Lynn with June - 2012Minneapolis Star Tribune got a good one of Lynn with big Braveheart a few years back.  We hadn’t seen the picture of June and are glad to have it.  Her face is crystal sharp focus and looking calm, as usual, as she gets a treat in exchange for letting us take her heart rate and check her collar and change her GPS batteries.

Thank you for all you do.
