Did Lily and June know? – UPDATE April 15, 2012
Dot and the twin pines - April 15, 2012Mid-morning today, June’s collision course toward Lily brought her within 300 yards of Lily. The wind was from the NE blowing from June to Lily. Lily and Faith vacated. Did they smell June? June was probably unaware. She and the yearlings held up at that point and spent the day there. Now June, Aster, and Aspen are headed back NNE.
Dot's cubs high in a white pine - April 15, 2012
Dot did not return to her den and is definitely out and about with her 3 cubs. They are bedded at twin white pines—the favored refuge tree in this area.
Jewel is bedded by cedars today—the second favorite refuge tree. A video of her first evening away from the den is posted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwTFAJZBIog.
On this rainy day, we made it an inside work day when 7 Lily Fans unexpectedly came to help install a big kitchen cabinet (made by 2 Lily Fans) and store many things in it. The many hands made light work of many tasks around the field station. Order is slowly emerging from the chaos.
Thank you for all you do.
