Dot and EO – UPDATE April 3, 2012

Jewel gets a cub-kiss - April 3, 2012Jewel gets a cub-kiss - April 3, 2012Jewel and cubs playing with wild abandon and Jewel having trouble keeping Herbie in the den was worthy of center stage in the bear world today in our humble opinion.

The 'ears' have it - April 3, 2012The 'ears' have it - April 3, 2012Lily and Faith made us curious as they stayed near the clover patch they used last summer.  We want to get there soon to see what’s holding them there.  Maybe they found the first fresh greens (other than tiny grass blades) of this spring.

Herbie and Jewel up close and personal - April 3, 2012Herbie and Jewel up close and personal - April 3, 2012Dot had a chance to be a TV star today, but harsh light kept her and her cubs from being shown off as well as they could have been.  Dot got a brand new collar with a number on it in the process and was good to let us snatch a DNR hair sample.  Her cubs are big and healthy looking, but we haven’t seen them well enough yet to know their sexes.  In a week, we can take another look.

Jewel and cubs - April 3, 2012Jewel and cubs - April 3, 2012Lily Fans are doing an awful lot in many ways as volunteers.  As one example, the Education Outreach Black Bear Box Team of 9 volunteers tallied 1,928.5 hours creating the Black Bear Boxes that are circulating to schools.  The amount of work they did to create the boxes and contents is an example of what Lily Fans can do.

Thank you for all you do.
