Lily & Faith Den Cam Up Again
Jewel eyes the camera - Jan 25, 2012After over a week of missing Lily and Faith, the technology team got the new gateway and modem installed to get them transmitting again. They look the same as the last time we saw them. We’re waiting to learn if anyone heard Faith suckling today.
In Jewel’s den, both cubs were nursing nicely at the same time, which makes us wonder if they're working out the nipple order already now at 3 days of age. We hope so, because the screaming of the past couple days had us reaching for the volume control! We’ll be watching and listening to see if there’s a trend. We hope they do better than their mother. She and Jordan were still fighting over nipples after they left the den. Jewel lost out and had to settle for the 2 inguinal nipples, while big Jordan hogged the 4 best nipples on June’s chest. Jewel and Jordan were the only cubs we’ve seen fight over nipples after leaving the den.
students watch den camA teacher in New York sent pictures of her class watching Lucky and Honey’s Den Cam on the class Smart Board. The class is also following the Jewel Den Cam. We’re always delighted to hear from classrooms following the den cams. Some students have shared their interest with their family and it’s become a family activity as well.
Jewel's 'monster' tongue - Jan 25, 2012A dedicated Lily fan let us know she put the Bear Center and Research Center in her will. Much appreciated. There is much more to accomplish now and in the future. Both Centers are poised to be a worldwide voice for bears. We don’t know of another bear organization with the experience and data to spread the message about what black bears are really like. We are happy the BBC plans an 8-part series to be produced and broadcast worldwide from Ely, MN, in 2012. Other nationwide coverage from another network is also in the works. There is still a need to replace misconceptions with facts and change attitudes about these animals.
Do you remember the major voting efforts to help Northern Lights Wildlife Society a few weeks ago? We got word today, that Aviva Community Fund awarded them $141,000! Congratulations to Northern Lights and Lily fans.
Thank you for all you do.
