College Student Intern Positions Available - UPDATE November 29, 2016
With patches of green showing, the deer are back for grass. A fawn added a side course of date mash but paused to look at me in the window. You can see the date mash in the lower right corner.
While biting bits of date mash from the block, the fawn got some on her neck, which her mother licked off when the fawn rejoined her. The deer are wet from the light rain today (36°F). Just before 2 PM, the temperature dropped a degree, and the rain turned into big snowflakes. The temperature dropped another degree (34°F), and the lake is slowly refreezing. It must be a couple degrees colder down on the water. The North American Bear Center (NABC) is now accepting applications for the 2017 North American Bear Center Internship Program for the Summer and Fall seasons. We are looking for top-achieving college students who want to enhance their skills in animal care, educating the public, and presenting live animals to young and old in the Ecology Hall. They will also do literature research to become the go-to person on various subjects, make notes to help future interns, and learn to read the body language and vocalizations of wild bears and the 4 ambassador bears. Within the first couple of weeks they will even be doing podcasts about the ambassador bears to the online audience and the visitors who are watching the ambassador bears with them.
The Internship program supports the NABC's core mission of advancing the long-term survival of black bears. Interns gain real life hands-on work experience in the field. It is a great opportunity to network, build skills, and enhance resumes.
If you know of a student studying biology, ecology, environmental sciences or a related field, they can check out the position description on the "Volunteer/Internship" page at www.bear.org.
