Honey, Ted, Facelift, Interns, Educators, Greeting Card - UPDATE November 17, 2015

Holiday Cards Now Available!Holiday Cards Now Available!Have Ted and Honey denned despite the warm weather? 46F°. We are missing a lot of snow as the precipitation falls as rain in this El Niño autumn. No one saw them out today. Last year Honey denned on November 16 in the window den and Ted denned on November 14 in Honey’s Haven where Honey is this year.

In the bunker den Holly is near the door and Lucky is toward the back of the den. Holly continues to rake her nest as she was doing 2 days ago in this video http://viewpure.com/QyT9ospBW0c
Scott hopes to get the new cam connected soon. They are currently testing the wiring.

Today, the staff had an outpouring of creativity following GiveMN. The Bear Center facelift is getting excitinger and excitinger. We always thought a camping exhibit would be ideal. Many of the visitors are on their way to camp in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, one of the U. S. Forest Service campgrounds, or a Minnesota State Park. But we didn’t think we had the room. Today it came to us. A 4-sided platform of the same style as the Ecology Hall Habitat Exhibit would fit right in if we make a couple simple adjustments. The things that happen when good minds start to play off each other. With help from Peter and Ryan who made the Habitat Exhibit forest, the camping exhibit will give the Bear Center a forest flavor front and center and hold information inquiring campers want to know. This new exhibit will incorporate two of the exhibits near it, making the room needed for the big platform. Holly and Lucky in their denHolly and Lucky in their denWith this exhibit and the other changes in the works (and maybe a new grizzly mount someday), the Bear Center will be up to the standards of the Ecology Hall. The forest that will surround the tent can hold some of the birds the taxidermists will mount one of these days. Some will hang from the ceiling in flying positions. Some will perch on branches. Plus we will add nature sounds. Things are coming together with the help of Lily Fans and GiveMn. Thank you.

To go with the exhibits, we need interns and Bear Educators. If anyone has a friend or family member who would make a good intern, please encourage them to apply. Students studying biology, ecology, wildlife management, etc. would be especially ideal. Bear Educators have proved very valuable the last several years. We get so many compliments about the helpful people who make a Bear Center visit a joy.
