Holly – UPDATE December 31, 2013

GoldfinchesGoldfinchesHolly Den-watchers caught every move of Holly overnight.  It looks like she is calling the bunker den home.  The drive to work this morning had temperatures ranging from minus 27 to minus 35 along the way.  The staff bought Holly a housewarming gift of sorts—a queen-sized fleece blanket.  This link shows Judy Thon spreading it out for her:  http://tinyurl.com/pzvwu93.  As it turned out, Holly didn’t want it.  The blanket lasted only a half hour in the den before she threw it out.  She could take a lesson from the 3 resident bears who made the blankets part of their beds.

We here at the Bear Center thank everyone who tried to give Holly a life in the wild.  We appreciate your faith that we at the Bear Center will do our best.  We look forward to Holly sharing the Bear Center’s 2 ½ acres of forest with Ted, Lucky, and Honey and seeing Holly climb trees and find berries in addition to the food and supplements we give her under a veterinarian’s direction.

We will do our best to live up to the wildlife official’s statement that he would love to come back as a bear and be cared for at the Bear Center.  We are in the planning stages for a fourth holding pen.

The Bear Center has sold out of the 2014 calendars.  We all know one of the bears that will be featured in the 2015 calendar.  We hope we get pictures of Holly playing with the others, enjoying the pond, learning all the places to look for food, both natural and what we provide.

Thank you for all you do.

Happy New Year!
