Charlie Russell, Herbie, Etc. - UPDATE May 7, 2019

I can’t help thinking about Charlie Russell who passed away a year ago today. He did a lot for me and made bears his life. He understood them and cared about them.

A nice return of a bear today was 7-year-old Herbie that we all watched in a den with Jewel and Fern in 2012 when he was a newborn cub and in 2013 when he was a yearling. See if you recognize him today. He stomp-walked everywhere he went, pounding scent into each track like he wants to own the place. He was very wary and skittish, though. He usually goes to other feeders, so I was glad to see him.HerbieHerbie

The woodchuck is an ID picture of the owner of the new digs standing on its burrow. I believe it is a yearling born here last year—one of three here this year.

The herring gull picture is of a good catcher when she(?) was a juvenile in 2017 and is still coming back. She has a droopy wing but seems to fly and catch okay. She might have a problem though because she sits (not stands) here for hours, while most gulls just come and go. In case she needs help, she gets more than her share of bologna.
