Getting Weights - UPDATE April 16, 2019

At the Bear Center, Sharon says the plan is to let Ted out to get weighed at about 10 am. After he goes back to his pen, Sharon will let Holly and Lucky out. Tasha will also be out. I hope all is peaceful.Deer eating sprigs of grassDeer eating sprigs of grass

At the WRI, the temperature reached 60°F today. The new soft snow melted, and the old crusty snow remaining in shaded areas melted some, too. Woods Lake ice turned a shade darker and opened near the beaver dam. A beaver was out foraging there this evening. Spurts of spring weather have brought sprigs of grass that deer were again eating today where the snow has disappeared.

The mink (Clear) didn’t seem hungry today. He ignored me as he came up on the second floor deck and went to a food cache he made last night starting at 9:15 PM. In 38 minutes, he took 25 half-slices of bologna and stashed them under that deck. When I saw him today, he was heading for his stash. He grabbed 2 pieces and carried them down the stairs and up the driveway out of sight.

We’re approaching bear time. Last year the first sighting here was April 22.

Thank you for all you do.
