Intriguing Wildlife - UPDATE April 1, 2019

Stripe the Mink won a badge of courage today with her zeal to eat. She started up the stairs to the second floor deck slowly, one step at a time. Gray foxGray foxThe gray fox, probably four times her size, was sitting on a step halfway up. The fox was hesitant to go down. Stripe was hesitant to go up. Suddenly Stripe streaked past the fox and got her reward. The fox went down and disappeared. The mink named Clear saw his opportunity and raced up, also for a reward. We called for the fox. He knew what that meant and took his turn and was nice to pose for a picture out the window.

Another sign of spring is seeing deer foraging for tiny blades of grass that sprouted during the days of warm weather. We stopped feeding deer a couple months ago and saw few come around. But now this forest opening has naturally become one of the best sources of fresh greens at this lean time of year. The deer are back.

Thank you for all you do.
