Wildlife Action - UPDATE March 13, 2019

The gray fox is back. The mink named Clear is back. And the mink named Stripe is her old self.Gray FoxGray Fox I say Her instead of His as I have been saying because I got an opportunity to measure Stripes body length. 17 inches (not counting the tail). Checking several references, that is on the low end for FEMALES, not nearly big enough to call it a male. So it’s HER for the two minks and HIS for the gray fox from his interactions with other gray foxes. It was good to see Clear back. Can’t help but worry. She came bounding up the steps with full confidence even though I hadn’t seen her for weeks. She let me take a closeup of her face showing the clear chin patch even though she was anxious for the bologna.  Today I did something I hope Spencer Peter doesn’t find out. He gave me a rainbow trout yesterday.  Donna cooked it, and I shared some with the mink to see what Clear would choose between trout and bologna.  She took the piece of trout when that was all there was, but when the two were side by side, she took the bologna with gusto! Fun.
