Three Foxes, Frost, and the Hinckley Gathering - UPDATE January 31, 2019

The nice fox was good to hold still for a picture but was mostly on alert. Gray FoxGray FoxOne fox ran from the nice one. Then a fox came up and touched noses with the nice one. Then another fox appeared and the nice fox went after it but backed off when the other fox stood his or her ground. Then the two that touched noses went into the open garage.

The big night after the Polar Vortex of yesterday wasn’t quite as cold as the night after the 29th, but I snapped a couple frost pictures anyway—a close-up of a siskin’s back and blue jay with the usual frost pattern (head and back). Siskins that flock so peacefully together can demand space when they are hungry as one is doing in the picture.

I got a nice message from Sarah Zirbes who has set up the Hinckley Gathering for April 13. Donna and I are looking forward to being with these people who share my feelings about bears and what we are trying to do for bears. I’m thankful that Sarah sets it up each year. Here’s her message:

Hi Lynn and Scott!

We're confirmed for April 13 at Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN. The plan is to switch off years between Grand Casino in Hinckley and Mystic Lake in Prior Lake.

The cost per attendee is $30. This covers the cost of the food, with some additional dollars to be put toward additional expenses. The fundraiser continues to grow and with it, expenses for the event. No part of the $30 goes in my pocket or to the NABC or the WRI.
