Bear Helps Lost 3-Year-Old? - UPDATE January 26, 2019

Could this story of a bear helping a lost 3-year-old boy in North Carolina be true? Or was it hypothermia talking? I believe it—partly because I want to believe it and partly how I’ve seen how bears react to crying and sounds similar to crying. Here is a pdf of the story found on Facebook.

Also, a news story:

Our own Ted is drawn to sounds of children crying. Here at the WRI when Senator Satveer Chaudhary’s infant was crying, Blackheart was drawn to the picture window, stood up on her hind legs with her face and paws on the window to watch until the child stopped crying. Mother bears at this time of year are drawn to anything that sounds like a cub in distress. And there are other claims of bears helping lost children as described in the article. It will be interesting to hear if a bear does show up in that area at this time of year.

Thank you for all you do.
