Bear News – April 22, 2018
The Gate is Open!
On Friday April 20th, our opening day, Lucky took his camera down. Luckily it was not down for very long; Mauro from Custom Theaters of Ely was here and quickly repaired the camera. While he was working on the camera, I opened the gate between Lucky and Holly's dens. Holly came to Lucky's gate for a head and ear rub. Of course I always give my little girl bear a lip tug. It’s something she and Tasha expect from me.
They both look wonderful! They played while we were up watching. Judy Thon got a great video of their play. I think at this point they may finish denning together. Check out the video of their play https://youtu.be/dYsYQaonudk.
Tasha was reluctant to come to the viewing area while visitors were on the deck. It’s a new season and it takes our younger bear just a bit longer to get used to the noise. The bears are edgy at first, but as we get later into the season they will be accustomed to the noise.
Ted's den area was cleaned and I'm sure that was much appreciated. I'm so pleased when our Bear Educators come to help. There is never a lack of work. I appreciate their dedication to our bears and for the work that they do.
As Scott mentioned in a one of the broadcasts this week my title has changed to Senior Bearkeeper (curator). I wanted you to all to know that although my title is different I still have the same position; I didn't get demoted and my job description hasn’t changed. I still have the honor and pleasure of being responsible for the care of our four bears, and working directly with our Interns and Bear Educators. We simply thought it might eliminate some confusion from docents that also are museum curators.
I'd like to congratulate everyone who won prizes during our week-long celebration of Volunteer Week. We very much appreciate each and every volunteer!
