Lucky and Holly Playing, First Sightings, Volunteers - UPDATE April 20, 2018

Lucky and Holly are finally together playing as captured by a Lily Fan in this 11-minute video & Holly It also includes Ted and Tasha. Today, our first day open, I was on the observation deck when Tasha appeared. She was excited and full of energy. She must have heard voices from a behind-the-scenes group that was looking at Ted because she ran across the entire enclosure to check it out. Great energy. She didn’t go to the people, though, as they were returning by then. She went to the area where she would often get food during behind-the-scenes tours.

Still waiting to hear of this area’s first bear sighting. During 2006 to 2017, the earliest sighting was One-eyed Jack on April 11, 2006, and the latest first sighting was of RC and her 3 yearlings on May 10, 2011. So we’re well into the time of possibilities. We put a trail cam out to see if Quill might appear early again. The dates of first sightings are April 11 (2006), April 15 (2017), April 17 (2009), April 19 (2016), April 22 (2007), April 23 (2012 and 2016), April 24 (2015), April 30 (2010), May 1 (2008), May 7 (2013), May 10 (2011).

The final podcast of Volunteer Week was today with many drawings and a feeling of thankfulness for the many things volunteers do to advance the mission of bear education. Kathleen Hoffman won the Bear Course.

Thank you for all you do.
