Tasha’s Energy, Lucky and Holly’s Greeting, Gulls, and Foxes - UPDATE April 13, 2018

Tasha demonstrated her energy level on the 12th day of April. Being mostly loners, although playful with other bears on occasion, Pileated woodpecker malePileated woodpecker maleblack bears know how to entertain themselves as Tasha demonstrates in this 4:29 video captured by a moderator who showed good skill with the PTZ camera https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8WjKnU0A1s.

Red foxRed foxThe saga of Lucky and Holly continued with further greetings through the fence as captured in this 4:14 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gobVG6oe0cQ&t=18s.

Out the window, it was a wild night for Peggy. The red fox was following something hopping in the dark. It was a little brown bat that somehow couldn’t get airborne. The fox pawed at it and was intrigued as long it kept hopping, but when it lay still, the fox walked away.

Two raccoons came up on the second floor deck for sunflower seeds and dates, ignoring chicken. Red squirrelRed squirrelThe red fox came up on the second floor deck for chicken, but not when the raccoons were here. Next, a gray fox came up to the second floor deck and somehow got up on the railing for chicken. It was close-up views of wildlife in action until 3 AM.

Today, Clear Eyes the Herring Gull had a buddy. Spring is coming. According to the weather forecast, major melting will start on Tuesday and give a fresh spring look to the forest. Soon, the lake ice will melt and give a better welcome to the gulls.

As I was writing this at 8:30 PM (dark), the red fox appeared out the second floor window by my desk, looked at me, and seemed calm. When he next appeared four feet away in good light up on a feeder peeking in the window at me, I moved too quickly for the camera and he dashed down the stairs. That gave us a moment to put out some chicken. Shortly, he was back grabbing a big chicken leg and running down the stairs with it.

A gray fox appeared. The drama will continue. I look forward to Lucky and Holly getting together. I hope Pond Chatters catch some of it on video.

Thank you for all you do.
