Waiting for Bucky - UPDATE February 27, 2018

Bucky didn’t show again, not since Saturday evening. It was a desk day all day. Meanwhile, we found a bit about tooth Red SquirrelRed Squirrelovergrowth on the web at http://squirrelrefuge.org/teethissues.html. I guess this happens from time to time, and the teeth grow faster than I would have thought.

On the bright side, a pair of pileated woodpeckers were here after not seeing a pair for eons. Maybe not quite that long, but it seems long after having them nest in the yard for years. The male okayed pictures. The female got a glimpse of me and flew off, making me think the male is familiar and the female is a new mate. The red squirrel picture is of one of Bucky’s competitors—not Bucky.

Nadine Long called today with sad news that our friend Bev Hauptli suddenly died way too young (early 60’s) on Saturday, February 24th . She was dedicated to our mission and served as the Media Director for the Bear Center and WRI. She will be missed.

Thank you for all you do.
