Harry, Quill, Jewel, Sun - UPDATE September 27, 2017

I wonder why Harry showed up so late and so thin this year. He was limping at the end of last year. I don’t know if that carried over winter and hampered his feeding this year. He is walking okay now and gaining weight. 20170927 Blue JayBlue jayI believe he would be okay to hibernate now, but I hope he continues his nightly visits. It will be interesting to see if he waits until he matches last year’s weight.

There is a question about Jewel. I learned now that she hasn’t been seen since hunting started. Each year there are bears that disappear and then show up in spring. I can’t help but worry.

Among the sightings of Quill is a sighting on May 24th at 1 PM that includes a picture. We’re glad he made it over winter.

I understand the Bear Center staff is soon going to make an opportunity for Tasha to visit Holly to see if they want to be together. We’ll see what the bears say.

There were periods of sun today that brought out the brilliance in blue jays.

Tomorrow, the Minnesota Association of Museums Conference will hold a session at the Bear Center in the Hope Learning Center Classroom. It somehow seems appropriate that the classroom named after Hope will be used to continue education in that way.

Thank you for all you do.
