Holly and Tasha Play - UPDATE May 7, 2017

It was through the fence, but Holly and Tasha played, giving us hope that Tasha can stop running for safety soon. RCRCThey both had play ears, so it was all in good fun as Holly came and went multiple times as shown in the 5:52-minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9dcaz7XVCM

The bears are in their pens for a few days to make it easier to do a list of work in the big enclosure. A Lily Fan captured this 4:45-minute video of them in their pens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hNS1nIk2Pc .

ValentineValentineRC and her two female yearlings stopped by. Little Valentine posed for a picture, showing the brown fur that extends up onto her forehead. She is named for the white blaze shaped like a heart on her chest. Her narrow head at one year of age contrasts with RC’s wide head at 18. We are worried about Rambler, RC’s male yearling that we haven’t seen for over a week now since he went rambling off chasing deer as I am told.

I made an error yesterday and possibly previously in saying Donna has yearlings. That had to be Samantha (Braveheart’s daughter). I didn’t look closely enough and wasn’t thinking. Actually, we’re waiting to see Donna with NEW cubs. We’re wondering if she will have four again like she did the last two litters. Donna is 17. You might have seen her as a cub in the first documentary of this project—The Man Who Walks With Bears—that first aired on Animal Planet on March 1, 2001. She was born to Blackheart in 2000, along with her sister Dot in Blackheart’s first litter. Samantha is from a younger generation. Her mother, Braveheart, was part of Blackheart’s second litter (2002). Braveheart had Samantha in 2009, making Samantha 8 now. We’re waiting to see what Braveheart has for cubs this year.

Thank you for all you do.
