Mink - UPDATE March 17, 2017

The video a Lily Fan captured for today is the Bear Center mink squirming around in the snow. 20170317 Pine grosbeakPine grosbeak femaleI don’t know what the mink was doing but I suspect that someone out there would have a good guess or knowledge to share. Here it is in a 1:52 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFcbzleM3_4

In another request for information, don’t be afraid to send your ideas for the Legacy Wall and Merchandise.

As part of our upgrade this winter, we are adding taxidermy to the “Four Seasons” exhibit, a loon for an exhibit of its own, birds and mammals for the “Living and Camping with Bears” exhibit, and a couple items to be hung from the ceiling where people enter. We are also upgrading many of the videos using higher definition video from recent years. We upgraded our video cameras as new versions came out.

Out the window, the groundhog appeared mixed up, coming out on St. Patrick’s Day instead of Groundhog Day. A new bird for this winter landed briefly—a female pine grosbeak, which the Cornell University website says is the “largest and rarest of the winter finches.” In winter, these birds make periodic irruptions into northern states from their summer home in the boreal forests of Canada and Alaska. We hope her beautiful, red mate joins her here.

Thank you for all you do.
