Welcome! Be sure to visit the NABC website as well.

Lots of snow, but not enough ice!

den_watch_dataLynn sent Jason out prematurely to snowmobile and snowshoe to Donna’s den.  When Jason reached the edge of the marsh where Donna is likely denned on an island, Jason discovered that the early, deep snow prevented the marsh from freezing.  We believe it is the second time she had used this ‘unreachable’ den.

So Jason came back and resumed work on the Den Watch data that many of you contributed last winter and spring.  There is a lot of good, publishable data there (portion of data pictured).  We’re seeing how we can improve on that this coming den-watching season.

Work continues on protecting radio-collared bears, getting ready to install den cams, and catching up on paperwork that includes data analysis and reviewing education outreach materials.

Thank you for all you are doing.
