Juliet and Cubs on Nat Geo Wild - UPDATE March 12, 2017

A Lily Fan alerted us that Juliet and her cubs Sam, Sybil, and Sophie were on Nat Geo Wild today in a 1-hour documentary ‘Bad News Black Bears’ that will show again on Thursday, March 16 at 6 PM EDT and 5 PM CDT.Juliet with a female cubJuliet with a female cub 3-19-12

Two tired female cubs 3-19-2012Two tired female cubs 3-19-2012I haven’t seen it before, but the 3-minute preview has terrific shots that bring back memories of being there with Juliet and the cubs. Record temperatures had melted the snow and flooded their den. Juliet got them out in time. They could hardly walk yet. When I first saw them on March 17, 2012, the cubs were lying together a few feet from the den. The old updates for March 17, March 19, and March 24 tell more and have pictures. The old updates are at Bearstudy.org under updates.

I have to see the program on March 16. I know the BBC did a terrific job documenting how all the cubs survived through this peril. Sophie had two cubs last year.Juliet and cubs 3-19-2012Juliet and cubs 3-19-2012

WoodchuckWoodchuckOut the window, the woodchuck gave me hope of seeing baby woodchucks through the summer. She (I’m guessing) was gathering grass and white pine needles for her burrow. The one previous time I’ve seen that it was a mother bringing in bedding for her babies (officially called kits or cubs). The burrow is beside the foundation below the living room window beside the front deck where Black Bear Field Course participants will be able to see constantly.

Thank you for all you do.
