Lucky, Holly, Tasha, Ted, Etc. - UPDATE September 15, 2016
At the Bear Center, Lucky flew off the scale to chase Holly, who didn't look that scared but seemed to take refuge in the increasingly popular Rock Den as captured by a https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnuGHu-Wsu4.
Lily Fan atTed was his usual good self when I visited him today, approaching with his sweet sounds giving me his ultimate greeting. I felt honored.
I haven't been with Tasha for awhile, so I visited her close-up to judge her demeanor. She hardly noticed me as I came into her pen and then came to me and stood up confidently with no show of anxiety.
At the WRI, we glimpsed one cub at daybreak and an adolescent male in the evening. We ate a tense supper, listening for shots from a hunter across the street and from a bait site on the other side of the property. Finally, someone looked at the clock and noted that shooting hours were over.
We hardly dare to relax, but fewer bears and hunters are about here and elsewhere in the area. The bears' active season is winding down.A volunteer snapped a picture of the adolescent male bear and also of a pileated woodpecker and red squirrel.
We wonder how Lucky and Tasha's hibernation schedules will differ, Lucky being from Wisconsin and Tasha being from Kentucky.
Also, at the Bear Center, we are looking for ideas for upgrading the Cub Room. What would be fun and educational for kids?
Thank you for all you do.
